June 12 – St. John of Sahagún: Voice of Justice

On June 12, the Church commemorates St. John of Sahagún , a popular preacher and pastor of the 15th century. Born in 1419 in Sahagún, Spain, John first entered the Church as a priest before joining the Augustinian Order. He worked in Salamanca, where he was widely known for his passionate sermons on social justice, repentance, and charity. He fearlessly addressed grievances among the wealthy, those in power, and even within the church—which earned him more than just friends. His preaching was clear, direct, yet permeated with love and devotion.
