June 19 – St. Juliana Falconieri: The Saint of the White Scapular
On June 19, the church commemorates St. Juliana Falconieri , an Italian religious founder from Florence. She was born in 1270 into a wealthy and deeply religious family. Even as a young girl, she wanted to dedicate her life entirely to God—in humility, poverty, and active love.
She founded the community of the Servants of Mary , which dedicated itself especially to the care of the sick. She lived a life of complete devotion, accepted no official positions, and remained faithful to the simple service of her neighbor until her death in 1341. Tradition tells us that at her hour of death, she was no longer able to receive the Eucharist—whereupon a host was placed on her chest and then disappeared. She died a short time later—with a radiant light on her face.
She is considered the patron saint of nurses and of a good death.
