July 2: Memorial of the Visitation of Mary
On July 2, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It commemorates the encounter between the Virgin Mary and her relative Elizabeth, as described in the Gospel of Luke. Mary, carrying the Child of God, sets out to assist Elizabeth, who is pregnant with John the Baptist.

This Beg Prayer is marked by deep humility, joy, and prophetic insight. Elizabeth exclaims: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb." Mary responds with the Magnificat, one of the most beautiful hymns in the Bible. The feast invites us to recognize God's work in our encounters with others.
The Visitation of Mary is a feast of closeness, service, and joyful anticipation. It presents Mary not only as the Mother of the Lord, but also as a woman who moves, helps, and praises God—in word and deed.
In sacred art, the scene is often depicted as a subtle and dignified encounter between two women. In Val Gardena woodcarving, similar depictions can be found primarily in the area of Marian figures – Mary with a delicate facial expression, slightly tilted, with a flowing robe, and often with symbols such as lilies or stars.
