24 September: Memorial Day of Saint Rupert of Salzburg
On September 24, the church commemorates Saint Rupert, a seminal figure of early Christianity in Central Europe. Rupert worked as a missionary and bishop and is considered the founder of St. Peter's Monastery in Salzburg and a pioneer of the Christian faith in the Alpine region.

Born around 660 in Worms, Rupert initially served the Frankish court before setting out to preach the gospel among the Bavarians. In Salzburg, he founded the monastery of St. Peter and a Benedictine abbey on the Nonnberg. Both sites are intertwined with the city's history and remain vivid reminders of his work to this day.
Rupert is typically depicted as a bishop's figure with a salt barrel, an allusion to his role in the discovery or development of brine springs in the region. As the patron saint of salt mining and salt workers, his intercession is still recognized today in Salzburg and beyond.
Today, his memorial day is also marked by regional tradition: In Salzburg, Ruperti Day (Rupertikirtag) is celebrated, often combined with church consecrations and festivals, and September 24 is a state holiday with no school.
