June 26 – Saint Josemaría Escrivá: Holiness in Everyday Life

On June 26, the Church commemorates Saint Josemaría Escrivá , founder of Opus Dei. Born in 1902 in Barbastro, Spain, he was ordained a priest in 1925. In a time of social upheaval, he proclaimed a new message: holiness is also possible in ordinary life —at work, in family life, in small, faithful acts. In 1930, he founded Opus Dei—a community that encourages lay people and priests to sanctify their work. Josemaría was a gifted spiritual director, writer, and mystic. His best-known work, The Way , has been translated into dozens of languages.

He was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2002 and is considered the patron saint of everyday holiness and spiritual vocations in the world .
