September 29: Feast of St. Michael the Archangel
On September 29, the Church celebrates the feast of the Archangel Michael, together with Gabriel and Raphael. Michael is considered the prince of the heavenly hosts, the conqueror of the dragon, and the heavenly protector.
His name “Who is like God?” recalls his humility and his special mission.

In the Book of Revelation, Michael appears as a warrior who defeats Lucifer and overthrows the forces of evil. For centuries, he has been venerated as the patron saint of the church, the police, and the military.
In sacred art, Michael is often depicted with a sword or lance, slaying the dragon. This powerful symbolism is also taken up in Val Gardena woodcarving, expressed in finely carved figures.
