June 2 – St. Marcellinus and St. Peter: Courageous Martyrs of Rome

On June 2nd, the Church commemorates two early martyrs: St. Marcellinus , priest, and St. Peter , exorcist. Both lived in the 3rd century and died around 304 during the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian in Rome. Their tombs are located in the famous catacombs on the Via Labicana. Legend tells us that they had to dig their own graves—so great was their faith in eternal life. For them, the Christian faith was not a mere confession, but a deeply rooted conviction. Their names were later even included in the Roman Canon.

They are considered patrons of gravediggers and helpers in cases of possession.
