May 26 – St. Philip Neri: The Joyful Saint of Rome

May 26th is dedicated to St. Philip Neri —one of Rome's most beloved saints. Born in Florence in 1515, Philip became known for his humor, deep piety, and unconventional way of living his faith. As a priest and founder of the oratory, he dedicated himself to the pastoral care of young people, the sick, and the poor—with a smile on his face and an open heart. His nickname, "the joyful saint," aptly describes his character: Instead of strict asceticism, Philip Neri lived a joyful Christianity that touched both heart and mind. To this day, he is considered the patron saint of the city of Rome, of youth, of those with a sense of humor—and the patron saint of heart problems.
